PEOPLE

NYLA HUSSAIN

Nyla Hussain established her practice at the end of 2011 after gaining experience of more than 10 years working for several architect practices.  After graduating with a masters in architecture and interiors at the Royal College of Art in 2000, Nyla worked at several architecture practices, gaining extensive experience in a diverse range of large and small-scale projects, with a strong emphasis on high quality, flexibility, sustainability and dialogue with the end user.

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, where Nyla worked for 4 years between 2007 and 2011 as project architect, has had a strong influence on the practice. While working at this practice, she ran a number of new build schools and mixed-use office and residential buildings.  The education projects utilised innovative design and planning to achieve high quality spaces within the constraints of a tight budget, while their flexible design allows for future adaptation and non-traditional innovative layout provides a platform for testing new teaching methods. Nyla led teams to deliver school projects such as Hastings Academy, where she was a key player in the design of the winning bid. The success of the building was as a result of involving the end users, teachers and students, throughout the design process.

Nyla Hussain worked for Denton Corker Marshall for 3 years between 2004 and 2006, as senior project coordinator and team leader on the multi-award winning Manchester Civil Justice Centre.  The key emphasis in this project was attention to detail and processes to achieve a high quality of finishes, which is an important approach that is influencing our practice.

Nyla Hussain regularly provides expert advice at various UK house building shows including Grand Designs Live and Home Building and Renovating.
